Vindicta Mea - Process

This process was less about exploration and more about technique. I knew what I wanted to accomplish with this piece. However, I tried something that I rarely do on a piece of this complexity: I painted a greyscale underpainting first, then applied color on top of the piece.

What I found was that concentrating on value and tonal range first gave me greater control over my painting and allowed me to concentrate on hue as a separate entity.
