Snowy Morning at Caesars Creek

by Rodney Urton on December 11th, 2010
All my friends are sure that I’m crazy. Well, the feeling is mutual! In my opinion, only a crazy person would miss this. How could you not want to ride through the middle of the woods and see this. Ok, sure it was 8º and I was sweaty as hell from climbing all those hills. Plus, after two hours of riding in this winter wonderland, my water bottles froze. And who doesn’t love the sound of occasional gun fire, it is deer season. As long as you wear a safety vest and leave the Rudolph antlers at home, you should be fine. You have a better chance of getting into a car accident, than being mistaken for Bambi’s dad. Then there was the fact that my hands were shaking when I stopped to photograph, so half my shots have camera shake.
WOW, I’m not selling this very well.
Here, just enjoy the images in the comfort of wherever you may be.

And don’t ask me how I know!

If you like cycling and/or cartoons you should watch “The Triplets of Belleville”. It’s worth a replay too.

A Sunday Ride in the Country

by Rodney Urton on October 27th, 2010

This weekend the boys decided it had been long enough, so they both came out for a ride! I was thrilled to have company!

Well one of them only rode for less than half of the ride and the other… Well lets just say he payed the price for not riding as often as he should!

It was a beautiful day for October. The sun was out and the wind wasn’t too bad. I’d planned a short 33 mile loop for us. It was mostly flat with a few long gradual hills to climb. Plus it had a killer down hill with speeds of over 45mph. What I hadn’t planned on was the fact that my friends haven’t been riding. Plus my idea of “flat” and theirs seems to be a little different. The one that finished the ride with me, said he was duped into going on my little “journey of pain”. But, he liked the new route and wanted to ride it another time. Had he been riding on sundays and not watching football for the last 6 weeks, he’d probably enjoyed the ride a little more.

Apparently I ride hills all the time and I don’t really notice them.

It was great to have riding buddies again and hopefully they’ll keep it up. The images are from our ride and hopefully I’ll get to shoot and ride with them some more.

Fall is here in all it’s glory!

by Rodney Urton on October 20th, 2010

Once again fall has returned to the Ohio Valley. The leaves have changed and the weather is getting colder. It seems like every morning I need/want leg warmers. Most mornings are in the 40′s or below and most of the people I ride with either can’t or won’t ride. So to make the rides a little more interesting, I’ve been taking my camera with me. These are a few images from this week. Hopefully I’ll get some of my slacker friends out riding and I can get some shots of them.

Bell 28g water Bottle Cages Sell at Walmart for $8 each!

by on July 7th, 2010

I was shopping at a local Walmart this morning when I happened upon this little beauty.  I saw these genuine carbon fiber water bottle cages a few months ago at the same store for around $20, and there was just one left.  Since then I’ve checked back periodically to see if they received any more.  They did.  This was the only one left, and believe it or not this 28 gram carbon fiber cage was just $8!

I couldn’t find similar cages for less than $30, and this same model was selling on EBay for that price.  And no, this was not marked incorrectly, the info on the peg matched the info on the cage, it wasn’t on sale, and yes it is genuine carbon fiber.

A Wonderful Fathers Day!

by Rodney Urton on June 21st, 2010
This Fathers Day was fantastic. Seeing as I’m married and we have a child, riding as much as I’d like doesn’t always happen. The fact that we live in Ohio doesn’t help much either.
This Fathers Day I was treated to fresh baked cinnamon rolls and 3 of the best gifts any bike rider could ask for;
1. A new hard copy of The Ride by Tim Krabbé.
2. The freedom to go out and ride, with no set time to be home!
3. A set of Campagnolo Chorus brakes!
And as an added bonus, lunch at City BBQ and then I watched the end of the Tour de Suisse.
An almost perfect day. I wanted Cancellara to repeat, but Frank Schleck put on one hell of a show! Plus Martins ride was amazing.
